National vice chairman (South East) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Augustine Ehiemere, has confirmed the suspension of the senator for Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe from the party.
Ehiemere spoke to LEADERSHIP in a telephone chat in Umuahia, the state capital on Monday, following last week’s report of the suspension of the 5th term Red Chamber member.
He said he was suspended for breaching the constitution of the party by not only being a card-caring member but also the leader of the African Democratic Party (ADC) in the state.
The onetime state chairman of the APGA explained that it was the secretary, Peter Nduka, who mentioned the breach in a live radio programme in the capital.last week
”Upon this, the state chairman, Sunday Onukwuiri and his State Working Committee invited the senator to come and clear himself of the allegation, but he didn’t honour it.”
”They also wrote him a letter giving him 24 hours ultimatum to defend himself and to clear the air of what the party heard, which he failed to respond to,” according to him..
Ehiemere, therefore, informed that after the expiration of the ultimatum last Thursday, the chairman organised a state executive council meeting and suspended him.
Asked whether Abaribe, who moved from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APGA, and now in ADC has reacted to the suspension he quipped: “No he has not responded anywhere.”
