In its efforts to curb drug abuse, the Kebbi State government has embarked on a massive campaign against drug abuse.

The government took the campaign to Fulani communities in all the 21 local government areas of the state. Fulani are one of Nigeria’s major tribes with a strong presence in the North and Kebbi State in particular.

During the campaign, Governor Nasir Idris stated that his administration is committed to promoting attitudinal change among the people, particularly the youth, to make them more useful in society.

He added that about 90 per cent of crimes in society emanate from drug addiction, which contributes a lot to insecurity.

The governor further directed his special adviser on Nomadic Matters, Muhammad Kiruwa Zuru, to liaise with the Ministry for Animal Health and Fisheries and the Miyyatti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, as well as NDLEA, to embark on a statewide campaign across Fulani settlements against drug abuse and other criminal activities.

Idris noted the alleged involvement of some Fulani youths in drug abuse cases and other criminal activities which violated both the nation and Islamic laws.
