President, Global United Christian Congress of Africa and Diaspora, (GUCCAD), Prof. Ijoma Nwosu, has charged the federal government to address Nigeria’s insecurity and corruption.

He said this would encourage citizens abroad to return home and invest without fear of losing their investments.

He made the appeal while answering questions from LEADERSHIP on behalf of representatives of 18 nations who visited Calabar for the dry run (which is part of the activities to herald Carnival Calabar 2025) during the weekend.

He emphasised on the need for policies to protect diaspora investments.

Nwosu also urged Nigerians to reject corruption and promote integrity in governance and daily life.

He said that this would encourage citizens abroad to return home and invest without fear of losing their investments.

GUCCAD president who spoke after a brainstorming session with journalists and the Cross River State director general (DG), Diaspora Commission, urged the federal government to remove all bottlenecks hindering investors, tourists from visiting the country for business pursuit.

He emphasized the need for policies to protect these investments, stating, “As we invite our children in the diaspora to return home and invest, do we have a policy to protect these investments?”

Nwosu’s call is part of efforts to promote diaspora-led investment in Nigeria, aligning with initiatives like the African Diaspora Global Marketplace and the Nigerian Diaspora Investment Summit.

These initiatives aim to harness diaspora investments for socio-economic growth, employment creation, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To achieve this, Nwosu suggests establishing mechanisms for investment protection, promoting integrity in governance, and removing bottlenecks hindering tourism and investment.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has also introduced measures like Non-Resident Nigerian Ordinary Accounts to boost diaspora investments.

Nwosu urged the federal government to address insecurity and corruption challenge for a safe and secured environment.

He advocates for the establishment of investment protection mechanisms, development of policies and frameworks to safeguard diaspora investments stressing that such can encourage transparency and accountability in governance and business practices

He called for removal of bottlenecks, simplify processes and reduce taxes to facilitate tourism and investment.
