The Bauchi State government has stated that it created new emirates and districts to promote growth and development, while bringing governance closer to the grassroots.

This was stated by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Aminu Hammayo, yesterday while speaking to journalists shortly after a two-day meeting between Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and the newly appointed thirteen emirs and Gumzaar, as well as the existing six emirs in the state.

“The reason for the creation of new emirates and a chiefdom is to bring governance closer to the people. We have said it over and over again that our population has increased manifold, and development has continued to spread to the grassroots”.

He explained that some of the old emirates had broad areas compared to other states in the federation, which, from one end to the other, cover a distance of about 200 kilometres, meaning governance is vast and complex. According to him, the population has increased tremendously, coupled with demographic improvements.

Hammayo, who holds the traditional title of Magatakardan Misau recalled during the meeting that, “We saw for the first hand the kind of joy, jubilations, and euphoria over the establishment of the new emirates and the chiefdom, and their appointments”.

The Bauchi SSG added, “They were pleased with their appointments. And they are coming in to meet the Government, especially the Governor, for the first time.
So the meeting was very peaceful, everyone was thrilled, and I think what started well has ended well”.

According to him, the meeting critically examined the possibility of creating councils of kingmakers for the new emirates and chiefdom, as well as their respective traditional councils, which would pave the way for their smooth administration.
