Nigerian Army has directed soldiers on internal security operations to kill anyone attempting to snatch weapons.
An official signal from 81 Division sighted by LEADERSHIP ordered soldiers to employ maximum force while on internal security duty.
The army said, “Troops on internal security operations must act in self-defense to protect their lives, that of the their colleagues and weapons at all cost”.
The document titled: “Use of Maximum Force by Troops on Internal Security Duty” signed by Col M.A. Abba dated 24th October ,2022 expressed worry over spate of attacks on troops deployed for internal security by criminals.
“Following attack on own troops along road Owode-Illaro by angry mobs and the recent attack by some criminal elements on troops of 65 Battalion within a rally conducted by members of the Yoruba nation at Oju Ore roundabout along road Sango-Ota -Idiroko which led to snatching of a rifle from a soldier,
“I am to convey to all officers/soldiers deployed on internal security operations to shoot to kill anyone who attempts to snatch troops weapons while on duty”
This comes after videos of civilians attacking security personnel on duty, killing and carting away weapons.
