One of the three officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) killed on Thursday night by terrorists at the Bakin Ruwa border checkpoint in Bagudo local government area of Kebbi State, Audu Hudu from Taraba State, was yesterday laid to rest at the Birnin Kebbi main cemetery in the presence of sympathisers from the state NIS command.

A senior officer of the command who did not want his name in print told our reporter that the second officer, Abbas Abubakar from Yobe State, would be buried today.

He added that the remains of the third officer, Ande Jeremiah from Benue State, would be taken to his home state by his family for burial according to Christian rites.

According to him, the corpses of the three officers were conveyed from Bakin Ruwa to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, where an autopsy confirmed that they were burnt beyond recognition.

An eyewitness who craved anonymity told Leadership Sunday that the three NIS officers were first shot by the bandits before the attackers poured petrol on their shelter and set it and their vehicle ablaze.

“The bandits, two on each motorcycle, arrived at the NIS checkpoint around 11:43 p.m., opened fire on the officers, and later burnt them,” the eyewitness said.
