The African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, has distanced himself from Peter Obi membership of the party and registered at the party’s zonal office in Enugu.

In a statement in Gombe, who insists he is national chairman of the ADC, described the report of Obi’s registration as misleading and inconsistent with its constitutionally approved procedures.

He said ADC’s membership registration process is clearly defined and strictly regulated, stressing that the party operates on the principles of order, discipline and adherence to its constitution.

According to the statement, only ward-level registration is recognised as the legitimate entry point into the party.

“It has come to our attention that a certain Mr. Peter Obi was reportedly registered at a party zonal office in Enugu. The National Working Committee wishes to categorically state that such action does not conform with the constitutional and stipulated procedures for membership registration into the African Democratic Congress,” Gombe said.

He explained that the party’s constitution provides a clear framework for registration, beginning at the ward level.

“The ADC is a party built on order and discipline. Membership registration must commence at the ward level in the state of origin or residence of the prospective member. This is the only constitutionally recognised point of entry,” the statement read.

It added that registration involves the completion of official party forms and the issuance of a validated membership card upon successful documentation.

The party further said  that registration at zonal or national offices is not recognised under its constitution and any such exercise should be considered irregular.

“The party’s constitution does not provide for the registration of individuals at zonal or national offices. Any registration carried out outside the ward structure is invalid,” Gombe stated.

He said the national leadership had consequently disowned the reported Enugu registration, stressing that the party was already investigating the matter.

While reaffirming ADC’s openness to Nigerians interested in joining its fold, the party urged members of the public to disregard claims suggesting alternative registration channels.

“The ADC remains committed to building a credible and inclusive political platform for Nigerians, but this must be done strictly in line with our laws and internal regulations,” the statement added.
