The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) in Ekiti State held its 10th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, February 7, 2026, where the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, delivered a comprehensive stewardship address highlighting the university’s substantial growth during his tenure.

In his remarks, Prof. Fasina emphasised that FUOYE has risen significantly under his leadership, becoming the fourth most subscribed university among admission-seekers in Nigeria while consistently improving its national rankings.

“Our achievements are encapsulated in the 20-point agenda and transformation blueprint for FUOYE, which we have diligently implemented since I assumed office in 2021,” he stated.

Key accomplishments cited by the Vice-Chancellor include expansion of academic programmes, with the number of faculties increasing from eight to eighteen and the introduction of numerous new departments and fully accredited programmes.

“Rapid growth in student population, now exceeding 60,000 (up from around 20,000 at the start of his tenure).

“Significant infrastructural development, notably the ‘Blue Roof Revolution’, which has seen the construction of magnificent buildings with distinctive blue roofing across the Oye and Ikole campuses, marking a lasting legacy in physical infrastructure.

“Strong emphasis on quality faculty and student output, alongside a remarkable increase in Internally Generated Revenue (reported in related announcements as a 310% rise),” he listed among others.

LEADERSHIP repors that Prof. Fasina’s tenure ends next week.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Visitor to the university, who was represented at the event by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, for unwavering support that enabled these milestones.

He also congratulated his successor, Professor Joshua Ogunwale, who emerged through a competitive selection process.

“As a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, you are already part of our success story. I am confident that FUOYE is in steady hands under your leadership,” Fasina said.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, echoed appreciation for President Tinubu’s support and the Federal Government’s reforms in education.

He extended gratitude to the Federal Ministry of Education, NUC, JAMB, TETFund, NELFund, the Ekiti State Government, host communities, parents, guardians, and other stakeholders for their contributions to the university’s progress.

The Convocation Lecturer and one of the honorary doctorate recipients, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Sokoto Diocese, commended FUOYE’s resilience and future-oriented vision.

He congratulated the graduating students for being found worthy in learning and character.

Other recipients of honorary Doctorate degrees included His Eminence Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto; His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife; His Royal Majesty Oba Michael Oluwole Adugbole III, the Oloye of Oye-Ekiti, and Hon. Justice Walter Onnoghen, former Chief Justice of Nigeria.

A total of 7,684 students graduated, comprising 7,396 undergraduates (including 131 with First Class honours) and 288 postgraduates.

Notably, the first set of FUOYE law graduates received their degrees and are set to proceed to Nigerian Law School in September.

This convocation marks a significant milestone for FUOYE, reflecting five years of transformative leadership under Prof. Fasina.
