Wolves Vs Arsenal: The Gunners Aim To Extend Lead

Arsenal will be looking to extend their remarkable stranglehold over Wolverhampton Wanderers and lead at the top of Premier League table when they visit Molineux on Wednesday night.

The Gunners, who would arrive in the West Midlands with an formidable record against their hosts, currently top the Premier League log with 57 points, four points ahead of second placed Manchester City who host Newcastle on Saturday in a tricky tie.

Since their memorable double over Arsenal in the 2020/21 season, Wolves have endured a torrid run, losing nine consecutive Premier League encounters against the North London club. This streak highlights the growing chasm between the two sides in recent seasons.

Arsenal’s away form at Molineux is particularly impressive, boasting nine wins from their 11 Premier League visits. This 82% win rate is their best against any opponent they’ve faced at least ten times on the road.

Furthermore, the Gunners carry an astonishing scoring record into the match, having found the net in each of their last 36 meetings with Wolves across all competitions. This run is surpassed only by Wrexham’s 49 consecutive games scoring against Darlington in English football history.

The reverse fixture earlier this season saw Arsenal secure a 2-1 victory, albeit with the unusual assistance of two Wolves’ own goals. Should a similar stroke of luck occur, Arsenal would join an exclusive club of only three sides to have benefited from three own goals against the same opponent in a single Premier League campaign.

Current form heavily favours Arsenal, who have won their last 14 league matches against teams in the relegation zone, scoring 40 goals and conceding just four – the longest such run in Premier League history.

Conversely, Wolves have struggled significantly at home this season, suffering ten defeats in their 13 league games at Molineux. Only Southampton last year reached double-digit home defeats quicker, with Wolves having only lost more home games in a top-flight season on two previous occasions.
