A retired director of the Federal Civil Service, Selman Dashe, has expressed  concern over the retirement package for Nigerian civil servants. He insisted that the  package isn’t exactly generous, adding that one needs  to be creative to survive post retirement period.

Dashe spoke during  his retirement thanksgiving and birthday celebration at Jonggrand Hotel, Jos, Plateau State at the weekend.

LEADERSHIP reports that the retired  director served the Federal Civil Service for 33 years and retired in January, 2026 inline with the Federal Government eight years tenure policy for directors.

He further lamented that Plateau State has no strategic plan for civil servants post-retirement. He urged the state government to address these as a matter of urgency.

According  to  him, now that he has  retired  from federal civil service, he is feeling like he’s now his own boss. “I am looking forward to contributing positively to the development of my immediate community and the state at large through consultancy service, leveraging my years of experience.”

On the new tax law  policy, being implemented by the Federal Government,  Dashe said, “I thinks it’s favorable to retirees, with certain income streams being tax-free, including pension thresholds.”

Also speaking on the level of insecurity bedeviling the country, he maintained that Nigeria  should leverage on emerging technology to deal with security challenges confronting the country.

He argued that  Nigeria should take a cue from Turkey. “They used technology to tackle similar issues in their country and now, they are  relatively peaceful,” Dashe said.

On his part, Brigadier General Jon Temlong (retd) advised  the celebrant to stay active, read widely, and keep contributing to the development of his immediate community.

He also encouraged Plateau indigenes working outside the state to stay connected and support their roots, while those at home should appreciate their representatives’ efforts to bring development to their home state .

Meanwhile, the senator representing Plateau South Barr Simon Lalong represented by Hon. Exodus Pyennap  in his remarks described Selman Dashe as a man with many parts adding that he is almost a perfect human being that has touched so many lives in his community, state and Nigeria at large.
