Marine veteran and Green Party Senate candidate Brian McGinnis disrupted a Senate Armed Services subcommittee hearing on Wednesday to protest US and Israeli military action against Iran.

The veteran was heard echoing “No one wants to fight for Israel!” and “America does not want to send its sons and daughters to war!”

According to CBS News, the confrontation, which has since gone viral, occurred just 30 minutes into the session, which featured testimony from senior military officials on military readiness.

Dressed in his Marine uniform, McGinnis stood and vocally condemned continued US involvement in the conflict, demanding that lawmakers stop funding the war.

Capitol Police quickly moved to remove him, but the veteran struggled with officers. Video footage showed a tense struggle near the doorway, during which McGinnis’ left hand became trapped between the door and frame.

Republican Senator Tim Sheehy of Montana reportedly intervened to assist officers in lifting McGinnis out, during which accusations arose that his hand may have been broken.

McGinnis was eventually escorted out and transported to George Washington University Hospital. His campaign manager, Mark Elbourno, told CBS News that McGinnis “wasn’t assaulting anybody. He just wanted to be heard… He was assaulted, actually. They broke his arm.”

The US Capitol Police, however, issued a statement claiming that McGinnis “got his own arm stuck in a door to resist our officers and force his way back into the hearing room,” adding that he now faces multiple charges, including assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and obstructing a passageway. Three officers were treated for minor injuries on the scene.

Earlier, McGinnis posted a video on his X account, stating: “I’m here in D.C. trying to speak out against the Senate and ask them why they’re going to send our men and women to harm’s way when our elected officials said that it would be no world war… Anybody who feels disillusioned and betrayed by our government, you’re not alone.”

Senator Sheehy later wrote that he intervened to “deescalate the situation” and expressed hope that McGinnis would “get the help he needs without causing further violence.”
