Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has begun an investigation into the killing of one of its volunteer personnel, Buhari Haruna, during the distribution of Ramadan palliatives in Tudun Wada local government area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred during a humanitarian programme organised by the member representing Tudun Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa.
Spokesman of the NSCDC command in the state, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the corps had commenced an inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
Abdullahi said the command was already working with its divisional officer in the area to unravel what led to the incident and ascertain the next line of action.
“There was a skirmish in Tudun Wada. He (Buhari Haruna) is our supporting volunteer staff,” Abdullahi said. The incident has generated controversy in the area, with political undertones beginning to emerge.
While the lawmaker, Doguwa, reportedly alleged that the NSCDC volunteer was killed by hoodlums who attempted to disrupt the palliatives distribution exercise, some politicians in the area accused the federal lawmaker of having a hand in the incident.
