As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum, a prominent politician, Hon. Suberu Yusufu John, has declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Okehi/Adavi federal constituency in Kogi Central.
He pledged to lift his people out of multidimensional poverty.
Suberu John made the declaration on Wednesday at Ege in Uruvochinonu Ward, Adavi local government area, stating that his ambition was driven by the persistent hardship and deprivation faced by his constituents.
The aspirant, who currently serves as senior special assistant to Kogi State Governor on Road Safety Matters, said his people had long been marginalised, often seen only as voters but denied the dividends of democracy.
He lamented the dire conditions in the constituency, citing unemployment among graduates, hunger among families, lack of basic needs among schoolchildren, and the struggles of widows as key concerns that motivated his decision to run for office.
According to him, the situation has left many residents “wandering in the wilderness without help,” adding that his aspiration is aimed at changing the narrative and restoring hope to the people.
He further decried the neglect of the constituency despite its pool of hardworking and talented individuals, noting that the area continues to suffer from poor infrastructure, including bad roads, dilapidated schools, and lack of social amenities.
Suberu John, however, commended Governor Ododo for ongoing road projects in the area and appreciated his appointment, urging continued support for the administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also acknowledged party leaders and stakeholders for their support, appealing for their backing to realize his ambition of repositioning the constituency.
The aspirant assured constituents of accessible, compassionate, and accountable leadership if elected, promising to prioritize security, create employment opportunities for youths, and ensure farmers receive adequate support.
He called on voters to support APC candidates in the forthcoming elections, while also commending party leaders, including the APC chairman and auditor-general for Local Governments, Adabenege Siyaka, for their contributions to development in the area.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Electronic Media, Hon. Adebayo Ohiare, described the event’s empowerment programme as evidence of Suberu John’s commitment to impactful leadership.
Ohiare emphasised the need for unity and collective effort, urging the people to rally behind the aspirant for electoral success and effective representation.
The event featured the award of scholarships to 40 students, distribution of food items to 1,500 households, cash support to 100 individuals, and the presentation of mobile phones to youths to enhance connectivity.
