The ongoing work at the Nwonyo Lake Resort in Taraba State has been described as a landmark initiative, with the potential to reposition the state as a leading destination for leisure and eco-tourism in Nigeria and beyond.

The project, which currently about 60 per cent completed, is already drawing international interest, including investors from Caribbean nationals, who have reportedly indicated interest to manage the facility upon completion.

As part of efforts to boost tourism, the Taraba State Government has entered into a partnership with La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort to develop the lake into a centre for leisure and ecosystem preservation.

A former federal lawmaker, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, who recently visited the project site in Ibi local government area, said the Nwonyo Lake Resort possesses the capacity to attract tourists from across the globe and to enhance tourism development in the state.

Ojudu, who served as special adviser on political matters to former President Muhammadu Buhari, commended the state government for its vision and collaboration with La Campagne Tropicana in developing the eco-tourism facility.

He expressed admiration for the pace and quality of work at the lake, and described the project as a unique initiative capable of drawing visitors from within and outside Nigeria.

According to him, the potential at the Nwonye Lake is enough to rank it among the best in Africa.

“I am amazed by what is happening here. I see this as something that will attract many guests and visitors in the next two months. It is one of its kind in Africa,” he said.

According to him, the project, when completed, will not only enhance tourism development, it will also place Taraba State on the global tourism map.

“What is going on here, when completed, will wow visitors. It is a remarkable initiative that will bring attention and development to the state,” he added.

Ojudu further noted that the resort is expected to host visitors and investors from across the world, particularly those interested in tourism and hospitality.

He expressed optimism that the facility would stimulate economic growth, attract investment, and unlock the vast natural and cultural potential of Taraba State.

The former lawmaker, therefore, urged Nigerians and other tourists globally to visit the state and explore its rich natural endowments.

“I urge all Nigerians to come to Taraba. It is a beautiful place, come and enjoy its fruits and unique attractions,” he said.
