The Vice-Chancellor of Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, Prof. Clement Kolawole, has called for private university students’ access to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

Kolawole made the call on Monday in Lagos at a news conference to announce activities for the university’s Eighth Matriculation Ceremony and its Fourth Convocation Ceremony.

He also called for private university staff access to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) to support research and infrastructure development in private universities.

“A fair percentage-based model should guide NELFUND for students and TETFund for staff, ensuring that federal, state, and private institutions benefit equitably from national education support interventions,” he said.

The vice-chancellor said that 200 students would be receiving Bachelor’s Degree from the university’s Faculty of Arts, and 101 from its Social and Management Sciences, 64 from Basic and Applied Medical Sciences, and 35 from Nursing Sciences.

According to him, 51 students made First Class Degree and 61 obtained Second Class (Upper Division).

He said that the week-long convocation activities would include student and alumni engagements which would feature interactions designed to foster reconnections and professional growth.

Kolawole said that the convocation lecture would have the theme, ‘Convoking a Galaxy of Stars: Empowered to Make Global Impact’.

He said that the lecture would be delivered by Pastor Poju Oyemade, Founder of the Covenant Nation Church.

The vice-chancellor said that convocation ceremony would be concluded with the award of degrees and diplomas.

Kolawole said the university’s 2026 Matriculation Lecture would be entitled: ‘Coping with the Challenges of University Education in Nigeria: The Role of Psycho-Social Adjustment’.

He said that the lecture would be delivered by Prof. Joseph Ayodele, the Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University.

He disclosed that the university had launched a structured Skills Acquisition Academy to provide all-round education by equipping students with practical skills to overcome unemployment and under-employment.

Kolawole added that Trinity University had signed a memorandum of understanding with some institutions to strengthen partnerships and produce graduates who would be job creators.
