Yobe State governor, Dr Mai Mala Buni, has urged Nigerian clerics to pray for their country, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leaders.

In a statement issued by the director-general of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor Mamman Mohammed, the governor made the call on Tuesday during a meeting with chief imams of Jumaat mosques in the state

The media aide said the first phase of the meeting organised for Muslim and Christian clerics in the state was attended by over 800 chief imams of the various Friday Jummat mosques.

The governor said Nigeria needs prayers against internal and external evil machinations for peace to reign and for the country to prosper.

He said, “There will be no meaningful development without peace. That is why we need to come together to support our leaders to save our country.”

Buni reminded the religious leaders of the unfortunate experience of the state during the worse days of the Boko Haram attacks.

He said, “Many people were killed, millions were displaced and properties were destroyed, we cannot afford to be drawn back to such an experience, therefore, we should support our leaders for Nigeria to remain united and peaceful.

“We thank God for the relative peace we now enjoy and we cannot afford to toy with it. We will support the federal government to guard it jealously,” Buni added.

He noted that Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, adding that “most African countries look up to us and pray for peace to reign in the country.”

The governor reminded the people that “they have no other country to call their home except Nigeria.

“Therefore, it is our responsibility as citizens to pray for a lasting peace and prosperity of Nigeria, and for God to guide President Tinubu and all other leaders” he said.

The special adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs, Ustaz Babagana Malam Kyari, said the meeting was to remind the Imams of the need to pray for Nigeria and all the leaders.

“It is a great joy that here in Yobe State, we enjoy peace and harmony among our clerics and the understanding of the need for prayers for our leaders” he said.

The imams promised to intensify prayers for the country, President Tinubu, Governor Buni and other leaders for peace to reign and for Nigeria to prosper.
