Iloenyosi Applauds Soludo’s ‘Visionary Reforms’ As Anambra Football Rebounds

The Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association, Chikelue Iloenyosi, has praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for what he described as bold and transformative reforms that are revitalising the state’s sports sector.

In a personally signed statement titled “Appreciation and Eulogy for Strategic Reform in the Anambra State Sports Sector,” Iloenyosi commended the governor’s decision to restructure sports administration by merging the Anambra State Sports Development Commission with the Ministry of Youth Development.

He said the move, alongside the appointment of Patrick Aghamba as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, had restored direction and coherence to a sector previously plagued by administrative inefficiencies.

“On behalf of the Anambra State Football Association board, local football council chairmen and the wider sporting community, I extend our sincere appreciation for your visionary leadership,” Iloenyosi stated. “Your reforms have brought clarity, coordination and renewed hope.”

The former international footballer noted that prior to the intervention, sports in the state—particularly football—had been on the brink of decline due to poor management and limited access to facilities.

He highlighted the challenges faced by clubs such as Solution FC, which, despite support from the state FA, struggled to secure cooperation from the former Sports Development Commission and nearly lost its Nigeria National League slot before it was eventually reclaimed.

Iloenyosi further lamented the high cost of accessing public sports facilities, especially in Awka, which he said discouraged grassroots development and investment in the game. He contrasted this with neighbouring states including Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia and Imo, where facilities are more accessible and affordable.

According to him, the governor’s reforms are already reversing those setbacks by improving access, strengthening collaboration and rebuilding confidence among stakeholders.

He also lauded Aghamba’s early impact, noting that his leadership has fostered stronger relationships between the government, football associations and clubs.

“There is now a renewed sense of optimism within the sports community,” Iloenyosi added. “These actions have laid a solid foundation for a more functional, inclusive and progressive sports framework in Anambra State.”

He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting the government’s vision for sustainable sports development in the state.
