Governor Abba Yusuf has reaffirmed Kano State government’s commitment to supporting security agencies with logistics and equipment to strengthen security across the North-West region.

The governor stated this in Kano while declaring open the 20th North-West Zonal Directors Conference of the Department of State Services organised by the Kano State Command.

He described the conference as a platform for security stakeholders to exchange ideas and develop coordinated strategies to tackle insecurity in the region.

He said, as the most populous state in the North-West, Kano places high priority on security, noting that security challenges in neighbouring states often affect Kano.

Governor Yusuf cited the recent abduction of the Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area, Alhaji Hamza Musa Durbi, and commended the DSS for leading an intelligence-driven operation that led to the rescue of the victim and arrest of the suspects on March 26, 2026.

“There is no doubt that our security and intelligence agencies deserve absolute commendation,” he said.

He disclosed that his administration had upgraded security equipment earlier procured for the DSS in recognition of the agency’s role in intercepting arms and ammunition allegedly meant for criminal elements in other states.

“We will continue, by the grace of Allah, to support all security agencies with logistics and equipment,” Yusuf stated.

The governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as the Federal Government’s commitment to securing the country.

He further praised the Director-General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Ajayi, for promoting synergy among security agencies and sustaining efforts aimed at protecting lives and property.

Yusuf, however, noted that despite Kano’s relative peace, the state still faces threats including banditry, farmer-herder clashes, cyberbullying, stalking and the activities of miscreants.

Earlier, the Kano State Director of the DSS, Abubakar Hussaini, said the conference was convened to review security challenges in the North-West and develop strategies for tackling them.

Hussaini stressed the need for stronger collaboration among security agencies to combat banditry, arms trafficking, cybercrime, illegal mining and other threats to national security.
