Kano Govt Approves N23.17bn For Construction Of 49 Secondary Schools Across 44 LGAs

The Kano State Government has approved the sum of N23,170,637,000 for the construction of 49 new junior and senior secondary schools across the 44 local government areas of the state under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) programme.

The contracts for the projects were officially signed last Friday as contractors received approval documents to commence work at their respective project sites.

The development, according to the state government, is part of Governor Abba Yusuf’s efforts to revitalise the education sector and improve access to quality education across Kano State.

Speaking during the contract signing ceremony, the Commissioner for Education, Dr Ali Makoda, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, said the projects would address infrastructure deficits in public secondary schools and create a more conducive learning environment for students.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector through massive investment in school infrastructure and other interventions aimed at improving teaching and learning.

Makoda noted that the construction of the schools would help reduce overcrowding in classrooms, enhance access to education and boost academic activities across the state.

He urged the contractors handling the projects to ensure strict adherence to specifications and timely delivery in line with the terms of the contracts.

The commissioner further stated that the AGILE programme remained one of the strategic initiatives of the state government aimed at improving educational opportunities, particularly for adolescent girls and other vulnerable groups.
