The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kwara State chapter, said its primary concern ahead of the 2027 general elections is to pray and work for peaceful, free, fair, and credible polls across the country.

The association also reaffirmed its commitment to encouraging responsible civic participation among Christians and the general public, while maintaining a non-partisan stance.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Sunday Adewole, the body said it would continue to provide spiritual and moral guidance rooted in truth, wisdom, and peace, while promoting issue-based political engagement.

CAN clarified that it has not endorsed any political party or candidate ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that any such claims should not be attributed to the association.

“The attention of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kwara State Chapter, has been drawn to recent reports… suggesting endorsement of particular political parties or candidates

“For the avoidance of doubt… such views, endorsements, or political alignments are purely personal opinions and do not represent the official position of CAN Kwara State,” the statement read.

The association emphasised that it remains “firmly non-partisan, neutral, and apolitical” in all electoral matters, adding that its mandate is to promote peace, unity, justice, and harmonious coexistence.

It further noted that while citizens have the constitutional right to political participation, individuals and groups must not misrepresent personal political choices as the official position of CAN.

“Any individual, church group, or Christian organisation expressing support for any political party or candidate does so strictly in their personal capacity,” the statement added.
