Court Fixes June 10 For Trial Of 2 Women Over Heroin, Cocaine

Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court in Lagos has fixed June 10, 2026, for the commencement of trial of two women, Ijeoma Agbakoba and Ifeoma Okoye, who are accused of unlawful possession of heroin and cocaine.

The trial date was set after the defendants were arraigned by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (National Drug Law Enforcement Agency) on a four-count amended charge bordering on conspiracy and unlawful possession of prohibited narcotics.

The charge, marked FHC/L/600C/2024, alleged that the offences were committed on July 3, 2024, at Plot 2205 Eugene Ndubisi Close, Lilly Estate, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos State.

Prosecuting counsel, Monday Oliver, told the court that the defendants conspired to possess prohibited narcotics without lawful authority, in violation of provisions of the NDLEA Act.

According to the prosecution, the substances involved include a total of 3.56 kilograms of heroin and 2.42 kilograms of cocaine allegedly recovered from the defendants.

While both defendants were charged jointly on counts one and two, Agbakoba was separately charged on counts three and four.

The prosecution maintained that the offences contravened sections 14(b) and 19 of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and are punishable under the same law.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following their plea, defence counsel Dennis Warri and Kate Igbo urged the court to maintain the bail conditions earlier granted at their initial arraignment.

Justice Osiagor subsequently adjourned the matter to June 10, 2026, for trial.
