The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (All Progressives Congress) on Monday conducted its senatorial primary elections across the three senatorial districts of Ogun State in a peaceful atmosphere marked by enthusiasm and heavy turnout of party members.

A total of 13 senatorial aspirants, screened and cleared by the party’s National Assembly Primary Election Committee, participated in the exercise, which was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (Independent National Electoral Commission) across 236 electoral wards in the state.

At the Ake Centenary Hall, the Ogun Central senatorial collation centre, APC Chairman for Abeokuta South, Henry Adetunji Fagbenro, said the party adopted a direct primary across all 15 wards of the local government area.

In Ogun East, listed aspirants included Bukola J. Burrito, former governor and senator, Gbenga Daniel, who later withdrew from the contest, and Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Governor Abiodun also participated in the exercise at his polling unit in Ward 3, Ita-Osanyin, Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area, where he was received by party stakeholders and supporters.

For Ogun Central, six aspirants made the list, including Sen. Shuaibu Afolabi Salisu and former governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, alongside other contenders.

In Ogun West, four aspirants were cleared for the contest, including Sen. Tolulope Odebiyi, Sen. Gbolahan Dada, Ojugbele Jimoh Olusola, and Taiwo Olayiwola Waliu.

However, mild drama trailed the Ogun West primary following the omission of the name of the state Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, whose name was reportedly absent from the list of cleared aspirants despite having obtained and submitted the party’s nomination form.

Her exclusion sparked reactions among party members and supporters across the senatorial district, particularly as she was said to have engaged in consultations with party leaders, stakeholders, women groups, and political associates ahead of the exercise.

As of the time of filing this report, the state APC had yet to issue an official statement explaining the omission, while collation of results continued across the six local government areas of Ogun West Senatorial District.
