At a time when insecurity continues to dominate national discourse and test the resilience of governments across Nigeria, the recognition of Gombe State as the “2026 Nigeria’s Most Secure State” stands as a powerful validation of what purposeful leadership, strategic governance, and proactive security management can achieve, even within a fragile regional security environment.

The conferment of the prestigious national leadership award on Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya by People’s Security Monitor during its Annual Security Conference in Abuja did not happen by chance. It reflects years of deliberate investment in peace-building, intelligence-led security coordination, and community engagement aimed at safeguarding lives and sustaining stability across Gombe State.

In a subregion often confronted by security challenges, Gombe has steadily distinguished itself as an oasis of peace in the North-East. This achievement is particularly remarkable given the complex security realities surrounding the state. While many governments respond to crises after they occur, the Inuwa Yahaya administration has consistently pursued a proactive and preventive approach rooted in collaboration, vigilance, and strategic planning.

What makes the Gombe example worthy of national attention is the administration’s clear understanding that security goes beyond the deployment of personnel. Sustainable peace requires trust between government and citizens, synergy among security agencies, responsible governance, and continuous investment in social stability.

The four strategic pillars highlighted at the conference by the Governor’s representative at the award ceremony, Dr. Jamilu Jafaru, further demonstrate a government that understands the evolving dynamics of modern security management. Deepening inter-agency collaboration, strengthening community participation, investing in technology-driven security systems, and ensuring accountability in security funding are not merely policy pronouncements; they are practical measures that have produced measurable results.

This explains why Gombe continues to enjoy relative peace, attract investments and maintain an enabling environment for development. Security and development are inseparable. Roads, hospitals, schools, businesses, and industries can only thrive where peace and stability exist. By prioritizing security, the Inuwa Yahaya administration has laid a solid foundation for economic growth and social progress.

To further underscore his growing national profile in security governance, Governor Inuwa Yahaya was also accorded the honour of serving as Chief Presenter of the book, “The Defender of the Nation: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Three-Year Onslaught Against Insecurity, His Tough Decisions, Sacrifices and Gains.” The recognition reflects not only his contributions to peace and stability in Gombe State but also the state’s emergence as a model for subnational leadership in security management.

Beyond the ceremony and accolades lies a deeper lesson for governance in Nigeria: security is achievable when leadership is intentional, coordinated, and accountable. The Gombe experience demonstrates that states do not have to surrender to insecurity or wait helplessly for solutions. With political will, strategic collaboration, and responsible governance, peace can be built and sustained.

The award may have been presented in Abuja, but its true significance lies in the confidence it inspires among the people of Gombe State and the message it sends across the country.
