Manchester United have reportedly identified Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen as one of their leading transfer targets as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
The Red Devils are keen to add greater firepower to their frontline and have drawn up a shortlist of five forwards capable of providing competition and support for Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško.
United invested heavily in Šeško last summer, bringing the highly rated 23-year-old to Old Trafford amid significant expectations. While the former RB Leipzig forward initially struggled to adapt to the demands of English football, he has shown encouraging signs of progress under manager Michael Carrick.
Despite Šeško’s development, United remain determined to recruit an experienced goalscorer capable of leading the line and delivering consistently in front of goal.
According to reports from CaughtOffside, Osimhen has emerged as the club’s preferred option. The Nigerian international continues to attract interest from several of Europe’s elite clubs following another prolific campaign.
The 27-year-old enjoyed an outstanding season with Turkish champions Galatasaray, scoring 22 goals and providing eight assists across all competitions. His combination of pace, power, aerial dominance and clinical finishing has made him one of the most sought-after strikers in world football.
However, any move for Osimhen is expected to be far from straightforward. United would likely face stiff competition from rival clubs across Europe, while the transfer fee required to secure his services could prove a major obstacle.
Osimhen has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and remains one of the most highly regarded forwards on the transfer market.
Alongside the Nigerian star, United are also monitoring several alternative attacking options. Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, Juventus frontman Dušan Vlahović, Bournemouth youngster Eli Junior Kroupi and veteran Polish forward Robert Lewandowski are all believed to be under consideration as the club weighs up its options in the transfer market.
With United aiming to challenge on multiple fronts next season, strengthening their attack appears to be a key priority as Carrick seeks to build a squad capable of competing for major honours.
