The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Akwa Ibom State has commended Governor Umo Eno over the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and the ongoing construction of a 350-bed hospital, describing the initiatives as bold steps towards improving the welfare and living standards of residents.

The council gave the commendation on Friday when its state chairman, Edet Effiong, spoke with journalists in Uyo, saying the projects demonstrated the administration’s commitment to people-centred governance and sustainable development.

Effiong noted that the deployment of CNG-powered buses would not only ease transportation challenges across the state but also provide a cleaner and more affordable alternative to conventional fuel-powered vehicles.

According to him, the initiative aligns with ongoing national efforts to promote the use of cleaner energy sources and reduce the cost of transportation for ordinary Nigerians.

“The CNG transport initiative and the 350-bed hospital project are practical interventions that directly address the needs of our people.

These are projects that will have lasting impact on the lives of residents and should be commended by all well-meaning citizens,” he said.

The IPAC chairman stated that access to affordable transportation remains a major concern for many households, adding that the introduction of the buses would help reduce the burden on commuters while improving mobility within and across communities.

He further praised the state government’s investment in healthcare, describing the 350-bed hospital as a landmark project capable of transforming medical services in Akwa Ibom and the wider South-South region.

Effiong said the facility, when completed, would enhance access to quality healthcare, create employment opportunities for health professionals and reduce the need for residents to seek medical treatment outside the state.

“A modern healthcare facility of this magnitude will not only serve the people of Akwa Ibom but also attract patients from neighbouring states. It is a significant investment in the future of healthcare delivery and human development,” he added.

He maintained that governance should be measured by the tangible impact of policies and projects on the lives of citizens, urging political leaders across the country to place greater emphasis on programmes that address critical needs in transportation, health, education and economic empowerment.

The IPAC chairman also called on residents to support developmental initiatives that promote collective progress, stressing that sustained collaboration between government and citizens remains essential for long-term growth.

Governor Umo Eno’s administration recently received the first batch of CNG buses procured as part of plans to modernise public transportation and cushion the effects of rising transportation costs.

The remaining buses are expected to arrive in phases as supporting infrastructure is put in place.

Similarly, the 350-bed hospital project forms part of the state’s broader vision to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, improve access to specialised medical services and position Akwa Ibom as a destination for quality healthcare in Nigeria.

IPAC said the two initiatives reflect a deliberate effort to invest in sectors that have direct bearing on the wellbeing of the people and expressed optimism that the projects would deliver lasting benefits to present and future generations.
