National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Abia State Command has warned tricycle operators against drug abuse to ensure their safe operation.

The state commander of the agency, Chilee Chigbu, stated this at a one-day seminar for tricycle operators under the State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), Aba Zone.

Represented by the assistant commander of Narcotics in charge of Prevention, Sensitization, and Training, Frank Nwohanmuo, he added that the seminar was crucial and timely.

Speaking while declaring the seminar open, the state commissioner for Transport, Chimezie Ukaegbu charged the operators to always adhere to traffic regulations and safe driving practices.

He enjoined the operators to see the seminar as an opportunity for them to acquire life-saving knowledge and improve their professional competence rather than a routine exercise.

Represented by the senior special assistant to the state governor on Transport, Obioma Nwogbe, he noted that the present administration in the state came prepared to deliver quality service.

He explained that to achieve the objectives of the seminar, cooperation of transport operators, unions, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders is key.

The commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the administration to building a modern, safe, and efficient transportation system in the state.

Earlier, the chairman of the zone, Victor Azubuike, noted that the seminar was organised to educate them on the need for them to be safety and security conscious,

‎Azubuike said that the operators are expected to know how best to follow traffic rules, manage their finances, and take adequate care of their health.
