Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Prof. Salihu Sanusi Avidime, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for introducing policies and programmes that improve the welfare of Nigerians.

Avidime specifically lauded the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a landmark intervention that has expanded access to higher education, and praised the First Lady’s humanitarian initiatives targeted at women and other vulnerable groups.

The rector spoke on the sidelines of the First Lady’s one-day working visit to Kogi State, during which she commissioned key projects and flagged off an empowerment programme for more than 2,000 women across the state.

A statement by the polytechnic’s acting coordinator of Public Relations and Protocols, John Amos Onimisi, quoted Avidime as saying that the federal government’s education and social investment programmes were having a positive impact on many Nigerian families.

During the visit, Senator Tinubu, accompanied by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and other dignitaries, commissioned the modern Kogi State Pension and Treasury House and launched the National Community Food Bank at the Government House, Lokoja, to strengthen food security and provide relief to vulnerable households.

The rector also mobilised members of the polytechnic community to participate in the reception for the First Lady, with students turning out in large numbers to welcome her with cultural displays, songs, drumbeats and trumpet performances.

He said the impressive outing reflected the institution’s support for government programmes aimed at improving the citizens’ welfare and promoting sustainable development.
