Gunmen have attacked Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina in Dekina local government area of Kogi State, where students were sitting for the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination and abducted the principal, four students and a NECO ad-hoc staff member.
The state police command said the attack occurred at about 5:25 p.m. on July 14, 2026.
The police spokesperson ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, who confirmed the incident in a statement yesterday, said a combined team of the police and other security agencies immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation.
She said one of the abducted students was rescued, while efforts were ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims and arrest the attackers.
“The commissioner of police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, the Brigade commander, the security adviser to the governor of Kogi State and I are currently on our way to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment,” Oyiza said.
The command assured the residents that a comprehensive statement would be issued as soon as more verified information becomes available and urged the public to remain calm as security operatives intensify efforts to rescue the remaining victims.
