The Premier League will release complete judgments from its Key Match Incidents Panel on referee and VAR decisions for the first time this season, alongside live RefCam audio and direct official explanations, in a three-pronged effort to boost transparency.
The KMI Panel’s full assessments—previously private despite frequent club leaks—will now be made public, covering every goal, penalty, and red card. The five-member panel, comprising former players, coaches, and league and refereeing body representatives, votes by simple majority on correctness, considering both on-field calls and VAR interventions.
Separately, selected real-time quotes from referees and VARs will be posted on the league’s Match Centre X account, website, and app, moving beyond general summaries. RefCam audio between referees and players will be broadcast in-game once or twice per round, though not live and excluding VAR conversations, due to International Football Association Board restrictions on live VAR audio.
The league will continue lobbying IFAB to expand public VAR communication. Last season’s private data showed 25 VAR errors, down from 31 in 2023-24 and 38 in 2022-23, with panel comments also influencing referee performance-related pay.
