American rapper and singer Jelly Roll has revealed that he could eventually leave the music industry altogether if he believes God is calling him to a different purpose.

The Grammy-winning country star, whose real name is Jason DeFord, made the revelation during an interview with Y’all Access Radio’s Kelly Sutton backstage at the Grand Ole Opry. The interview was shared on social media on September 13.

Jelly Roll said he feels he has already achieved many of the goals he once set for himself in music, including winning major awards and becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

He explained that his next step would depend on what he believes God wants for his life.

The singer gave a striking example, saying that if he were directed to work at a homeless shelter in Paducah, Kentucky, he would leave the entertainment industry behind.

“You’ll never see me again,” he said.

Jelly Roll also reflected on the recognition he has received during his career, pointing to his Grammys, ACM Awards and CMA Awards as evidence that he has accomplished much of what he hoped to achieve.

The possibility comes as the Tennessee native prepares for a break from touring. During a July performance in Salt Lake City, he told fans that his Colorado Springs show on July 30 would be his final concert for “a year or two” as he takes time away to heal.

Jelly Roll began his career as a rapper before establishing himself as a major country music act, with his 2021 album Ballads of the Broken marking his major-label debut in the genre.
