The National Sports Commission (NSC) has approved the constitution of a six-member caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF) following the dissolution of the federation’s board by the International Judo Federation (IJF).
The commission said the decision was taken pursuant to Section 16 of the National Sports Commission Act, 2023, with the caretaker committee expected to administer the federation pending fresh elections and the inauguration of a new board.
Sheriff Hammed will chair the committee, with Ekuta Catherine Ewa, Sule Musa, Bashir Musa Bassey and Oladipupo Idowu as members. Amayo Ngozi will serve as secretary.
According to the NSC, the committee has been mandated to oversee the day-to-day administration of the federation and implement reforms aimed at placing Nigerian judo on a sound administrative footing.
A key responsibility of the committee will be to amend the federation’s constitution to incorporate provisions required by the IJF.
The committee is also expected to convene an Annual General Meeting to consider and approve the amended constitution before conducting elections for a new board.
The NSC said the caretaker committee would remain in place throughout the transitional period and ensure a smooth handover to the duly elected board at the conclusion of the electoral process.
The commission charged the committee to operate with diligence, transparency and impartiality, while prioritising the development and overall interests of judo in Nigeria.
It also directed the committee to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective administration and the continued development of the sport during the transition.
The NSC said the appointment would remain in force until the electoral process is completed and the newly elected board assumes office.
The statement was signed by Kola Daniel, Special Adviser on Media in the Office of the Director General of the National Sports Commission, on October 9, 2026.
