Over 330 residents of Alagbaka, Akure, Ondo State were overjoyed as the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) extended its National Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP) to them. The residents became beneficiaries of NASENI’s clean energy solutions on Saturday October 31, 2026 during an elaborate ceremony as the Agency intensified its investment to boost the living conditions of the people.
The 330 men and women received support through the distribution of NASENI Clean Cook Stoves, Solar Home Systems, and support packs. NASENI’s determined effort is to ensure that all parts of Nigeria enjoy the initiative in the largest possible scale in order to help the communities replace fossil fuels that release harmful pollutants like sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides with clean energy solutions.
Apart from environmental protection, the clean energy solutions have triggered enormous job opportunities as millions of roles in manufacturing, installation, and maintenance renewable energy sector will be created. The NASENI Clean Energy solutions have the advantage of lowering operating costs over time compared to finite fossil fuels and in states with unstable power grids, solar and renewable systems can cut down heavy reliance on expensive diesel generators and lower business overhead.
Clean Energy solution fosters energy security in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu to create massive opportunities for Nigerian citizens tapping into the rich resources of the country, while prioritizing local assembly and manufacturing rather than pure importation to build domestic engineering capacity.
NASENI is using the NSEP to target rural and semi-urban communities and to lower household energy expenditures, mitigate deforestation as well as create technologies that solve local problems, collaborating with both local and international partners to accelerate the technology.
In his opening remarks during the event, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, commended residents of Akure and other guests in attendance for being part of the Agency’s offering of practical solutions to some of the socio-economic challenges facing families.
He stated that technology would make everyday life better, whether by helping a family cook more efficiently, give a child light to study, or enable small businesses to function. “When innovation delivers these benefits, people can see the experience in its value. That is why we are here in Akure today. It is a pleasure to bring the NASENI Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP) to this community,” Halilu said.
“We started the NSEP to bring practical technology and livelihoods closer to Nigerians. We wanted our work to reach beyond our facilities and become useful to homes, businesses, and communities. Our mandate finds its fullest meaning when technologies which we developed and promote help people solve real problems and become more productive, improving their standards of living,” he added.
The EVC/CEO of NASENI noted that the NSEP has reached more than 10 states across the nation’s six geopolitical zones. “These interventions show why technology matters to development, technology can help save time, reduce costs, and create room for people to do more with what they have,” he said.
Halilu added that “It also connects to NASENI’s wider mission of advancing technology transfer, strengthening local production, and moving useful innovations into everyday use.”
Furthermore, he stated that the empowerment programme reflects President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, creating opportunities and ensuring public investments produce benefits that people can experience. He urged the beneficiaries to use the products well and share their experiences to aid continual improvement.
Also, speaking at the event, the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayo Wisdom Olawande, commended the NASENI boss for his efforts toward the state and its youth. He highlighted the challenges households face and praised how NASENI is proffering local solutions to address them.
The Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Seun Bosede, who represented the governor, praised Halilu for driving positive and impactful change at NASENI to help citizens sustain their livelihoods. “Today, the women of Ondo State will benefit significantly from these innovative and sustainable cooking materials, which will assist them and ensure cooking is made easy,” Bosede said.
She also expressed appreciation for President Bola Tinubu, stating that his vision and genuine love have kept Nigeria going, and that the beneficiaries are grateful for the empowerment.
NASENI has made this nationwide progamme more comprehensive. So far, the Agency has distributed clean cookstoves and Home Solar Solutions to 12,000 households across 10 states of the federation, designed to reduce dependence on traditional fossil fuels, cut carbon emissions, and improve household living conditions.
The NASENI Sustainable Empowerment Programme is driving significant socioeconomic impacts across multiple states in Nigeria. The scheme bridges the gap between laboratory innovation and grassroots commercialization. So far, NASENI has extended its NSEP to Abia State, empowering indigenes in Ohafia; Anambra State, empowering women and youths in Abatete, Idemili LGA; Benue State, empowering communities in Wannune, Gboko LGA;Â Kano State.
Other states include Katsina State, empowering households in Malumfashi and Kafur LGAs; Lagos State, empowering residents in Ikeja; Ondo State, e.g., expanding clean energy solutions to residents in Akure; Osun State; Oyo State; and Zamfara State.
The initiative is designed to distribute locally fabricated technologies—such as NASENI Solar Home Solutions and eco-friendly cookstoves—alongside practical trade training to boost economic productivity at the grassroots level. The initiative has strengthened different aspects of the renewable-energy value chain, from research and innovation to manufacturing. NASENI has also used the NSEP to boost commercialization and skills development.
Moreover, NASENI is steadily investing in this sector. The Agency is involved in three strategic investments namely: NASENI Solar Energy Limited (NSEL) in Karshi, FCT Abuja. a solar panel.manufacturing plant; the NASENI Renewable Energy Industrial Park at Gora in Nasarawa State; and the emerging NASENI Innovation Campus at Abuja Technology Village, Lugbe, which will put the country on the part of renewable energy transformation.
