The collapsed building, which was previously used as a hotel before it was converted to residential purpose, has 45 self-contained rooms.

LEADERSHIP reports that the officials of FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), FCT Fire Service (FFS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), were on the ground trying to rescue other occupants of the building trapped under the rubble.

The acting Director General of FEMD, Mrs Florence Dawon Wenegieme, who was at the scene of the collapsed building, said that the agency was notified of the incident by passersby.

She said that they also received a distress call on the 112 emergency toll-free number at about 6.45am.

Wenegieme said the search and rescue efforts will continue until the last person is removed, if there is still anyone trapped in the rubble.
