Professional Women Accountants in Nigeria (PROWAN) in collaboration with the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), has hosted a “Catch Them Young” event at the Government Girls’ Day Secondary School, Kofar Yandaka, Katsina State and called for increased appointment of women in government for probity and accountability.

PROWAN national Chairperson, Madam Shiva Rae Kondoun, who made plea at the event, said Nigeria was losing because women were not being given enough chances in governance, stressing the need for women to enter politics and accounting, which demand integrity and accountability.

Kondoun also praised the Katsina State Governor,  Umaru Radda, for his administration’s efforts to appoint women in key positions.

“The governor’s commitment to female inclusion in governance is evident. For the first time in Katsina’s history, we have a significant number of women in leadership roles, including our commissioner for education.

“This reflects the immense value women bring when given the opportunity. We are here to inspire young girls to consider accounting as a career path, particularly because of the unique role women can play in ensuring transparency and trust in finance,” she said.

Also present at the event was ANAN’s Northwest chairman, Hassan Hashimu, who explained the importance of introducing young people to the accounting profession early.

“We want young people, especially girls, to understand what accounting is and to see it as a viable, empowering profession,” he stated, noting that women make up about 15,000 of ANAN’s 60,000 members worldwide, including members in the U.S., U.K., Cameroon and Canada.

Katsina State commissioner for education, Zainab Musawa, expressed support for the programme, highlighting the importance of financial literacy for youths.
