The borehole donation, which is being carried out with her initiative ‘E Dey Rush Community Outreach” in partnership with Global Charity Initiative, Hope Spring Water Charity, is coming 20 years after suffering from lack of access to clean and drinkable water in the community.

For the inhabitants of Orimolade community, it’s been 20 odd years since they have had access to clean, drinkable water.

Speaking on the initiative, the music star, Starr noted that “Access to clean, drinkable water should be a basic right for everyone.

I just want to be able to ease the burden of as many people as possible in these small communities where they don’t have access to water. It might not look like much but if you don’t have water for just a day, you’d really understand the inconvenience of being in that situation.

And that inconvenience is probably the smallest repercussion. There are serious health implications that come with not having clean water readily available to people”

While touring the world, she remains in tune with the realities of many disadvantaged people on her continent of birth. To allay some of their struggles and make a positive impact, she has embarked on the E Dey Rush campaign to provide water to communities that have lacked this important social amenity.

The 21-year-old star has been one of African music’s most prolific act since her unveil in 2021 by music label, Mavin Records. She has scored hit singles like Away, Bloody Samaritan, Rush, and her latest ‘Commas’

Project coordinator, Chinemerem Nworisa, was full of praise for the partners and the community for their cooperation.

According to Nworisa, the borehole is located at Awoni-Murphy Street but would also benefit neighboring streets such as Awe Street and Baoku Street.

He disclosed that the project was undertaken in collaboration with locals. One of the locals, Mrs Oluwatoyin, a long-term resident of the community, offered up her land for the project.

He said the public-spirited individual was happy to dismantle the shop she had set up on the site to aid the construction of a water tank and a borehole.

“Young residents of the area were also more than enthusiastic to pitch in and aid the project till its completion,”he added.

He stated that Hope Spring Water Charity, has been assigned to manage the structure.

‘We are glad to have been able to contribute to making this project happen. We appreciate Hope Springs Charity for their support and the community for being receptive and for aiding our efforts’ he said.

A middle-aged woman from the community who spoke on the development, Mrs. Ajayi said ‘We have suffered this lack of water for 20 years now. ‘We have to wake up around 2AM to fetch in neighboring communities or pay a lot of money to local contractors to get water’.
