Adamawa Begins Distribution Of Support Items To Flood Victims

The Adamawa State Government has commenced the distribution of intervention items valued at N611 million to 5,000 households affected by the flood in Yola-South Local Government Area of the State.

Deputy Governor of the State, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, disclosed in her office, saying food and non-food items are to be shared with victims of the Lamurde communal crisis.

Farauta said the delay in the distribution was to enable the state emergency committee to confirm the exact number of beneficiaries as well as establish the number of deaths recorded during the flood.

The immediate disbursement of the flood relief fund was approved during a meeting by the state emergency committee, chaired by Professor Farauta.

The deputy governor cautioned residents against building houses on waterways and urged traditional rulers to rise to the challenge of saving lives and property.

She also thanked the donors for their gesture aimed at mitigating the effects of the disasters on the people.

Farauta, however, reassured the public of prudent use of finances in the committee’s coffers, stating that “Government is working assiduously to ensure all emergency issues are attended to”.
