A group of concerned members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State has distanced itself from former APC National Vice Chairman (North-West), Salihu Lukman, declaring that he lacks the political structure and grassroots support to speak for the party in the state.

In a rejoinder dated July 17, 2026, and addressed to the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, the group said Lukman’s recent letter to the party’s national leadership did not represent the position of the Kaduna State chapter or the coalition leadership.

The rejoinder, signed by the group’s convener, Abubakar Danjuma, said it followed consultations with the state coalition leadership and reaffirmed an earlier position conveyed to the national chairman in a letter dated April 21, 2026.

According to the group, the ADC’s strength in Kaduna is anchored on former Governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai and other stakeholders across the state’s three senatorial districts who are actively mobilising members ahead of future political activities.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Lukman’s relevance has been limited to Abuja politics and occasional press statements that command no followership on the ground,” the statement said.

The group accused Lukman of convening meetings without consulting recognised state leaders and communicating with the party’s national leadership on matters for which he had no mandate.

It described the actions as “deliberate and divisive,” warning that they threatened party cohesion and amounted to an unnecessary distraction from ongoing efforts to strengthen the ADC in Kaduna State.

The members also criticised Lukman’s political record, citing his previous roles at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and within the All Progressives Congress under former National Chairmen Adams Oshiomhole and Abdullahi Ganduje. They alleged that he had a history of abandoning political platforms whenever he was no longer in control.

“The same pattern is repeating itself in the ADC. His fixation on former Governor El-Rufai is proof that his interest is personal vendetta and media noise, not party building,” the statement added.

Reaffirming their loyalty to the party’s national leadership, the group urged Senator Mark to disregard Lukman’s letter and instead uphold the position earlier communicated by the Kaduna Coalition Leadership.

“The ADC in Kaduna State is bigger than any individual. The party is waxing stronger and Lukman’s actions do not reflect the mood of our members. It is a case of good riddance to bad political rubbish,” the statement concluded.
