Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has issued a stern warning to the contractor handling the Lagere flyover and road dualisation project in Ile-Ife, insisting that the April completion deadline must be met.

The governor expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work during an on-the-spot inspection of the projects, stressing that his administration would not tolerate further delays.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke said the slow progress was unacceptable and urged the contractor to accelerate work.

“I am dissatisfied with the slow pace of work on this project. This is totally unacceptable. We will not tolerate any further delay. I have promised our father, the Oonirisa, and people of Ile-Ife early completion. There should be no room for any further delay,” he said.

The governor was accompanied by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi and commissioner for special duties, Bashiru Salami, during the inspection.

Earlier, Adeleke flagged off the rehabilitation of the Gbalefefefe–Omi-Igbin–Koola–Asabi Famia Road in Modakeke, assuring residents of continued infrastructure development across the state.

“My good people of Modakeke, I am here again to deliver the dividends of democracy. We are a government that brings verifiable developments across all facets of life,” he said.

The Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Toriola, commended the governor for prioritising development in the town.

“We commend Mr Governor for this new initiative. On behalf of the sons and daughters of Modakeke, we assure you of our continuous support now and in the future. Mr Governor, you are a major ally and supporter of the Modakeke people in our developmental journey,” he said.

The Lagere flyover project, awarded to Sammya Nigeria Limited at a cost of N14.9 billion, is expected to be completed within 12 months.

Adeleke also disclosed that rehabilitation work has commenced on 55.86 kilometres of local government roads across Ife land at a cost of N30.6 billion.

He further listed completed projects across the four local government areas in Ife land and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure in recognition of Ile-Ife’s status as the cradle of the Yoruba race.
