In his message to the hitmaker, Airtel Nigeria Chief Communications Officer Femi Oshinlaja, in a statement on Monday, said the ‘Album of the Year’ award category, which was sponsored by Airtel Nigeria, exemplified the entire event.

“Considering the amazing quality of music that continues to come out of Nigeria and Africa, Asake has demonstrated that he is indeed at the pinnacle of his craft, even though his music career is relatively young,” Oshinlaja said.

He added that, “As a world class organisation that always celebrates extraordinary achievements, we are proud to be associated with the success of this gifted musician.”

Asake, who also clinched the Next Rated Award for being the most promising new act to emerge in the year under consideration, won Album of the Year with his debut, titled ‘Mr Money with the Vibes’.

Airtel Nigeria said its continued sponsorship of The Headies was intended to help discover and promote exceptional talents such as Asake, while also boosting the efforts of the award organisers.

Oshinlaja noted that, like other global creativity awards, The Headies would continue to require the support of like-minded organisations if it must live up to its greatest potential.

“The support we offer is our own way of helping The Headies reach its goal of creating a legendary award platform for the African continent,” he said.

Corroborating Oshinlaja’s sentiments, Airtel Nigeria Head of Brands and Advertising, Omobolanle Osotule, congratulated the Headies organisers on a good outing.

“The Headies is the preeminent pop music award in Nigeria and this year’s edition was quite well-attended and impressive. We can look forward to more collaborations with the Awards,” she said.

LEADERSHIP reports that winners at the 16th Headies include Rema, Odumodublvck, Diamon Platnumz, Blaqbonez, Labianca Fonji, Simi, Adekunle Gold, Spyro, Tiwa Savage, and Burna Boy, among others.

Airtel had earlier announced its recommitment to supporting creative enterprise in the country as it launched a new brand theme, ‘A Reason to Imagine’.
