The Vice-Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Katsina, Professor Nasiru Musa Yauri, has announced that the institution will graduate 1,109 students at its 17th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled for January 19 to 24, 2026.

Professor Yauri made this known on Monday during a press briefing held to officially kick-start activities for the convocation week. Speaking on behalf of the university’s management, staff, and students, he described the annual convocation as a reflection of the institution’s commitment to global academic standards and the timely graduation of students.

According to him, activities marking the convocation will commence with a series of events, including a novelty football match between staff and students slated for Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the University Sports Complex by 4:00 pm.

The Vice-Chancellor also announced that the Convocation Lecture will be delivered on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 9:00 am in the Mohammed Sanusi II ICT Hall. The lecture will be presented by renowned diplomat and scholar, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, former Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and former Minister of External Affairs.

He said the lecture, titled “A Divided North in a Divided Nation: The Imperative of Promoting Inclusive and Accountable Governance in Nigeria in a Rapidly Changing World Order,” is timely and relevant to Nigeria’s current socio-political realities.

Later on the same day, Professor Yauri disclosed that several completed projects will be commissioned by 4:00 pm. These include the University Sports Complex, a block of six classrooms, a fully completed library, a new students’ hostel, internal road networks, and other infrastructural developments executed within the last two years.

The main convocation ceremony will take place on Saturday, January 24, 2026, during which degrees and prizes will be awarded to graduating students. Of the 1,109 first-degree graduates across about 28 academic programmes, 18 students will graduate with First Class honours, 230 with Second Class Upper Division, 507 with Second Class Lower Division, 336 with Third Class, while 18 students will receive Pass degrees.

Professor Yauri further revealed that the University will also award 17 Master’s degrees and 11 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees during the ceremony.

As part of the convocation highlights, the University will confer honorary doctorate degrees on two distinguished Nigerians. Right Honourable Aminu Bello Masari, CFR, former Speaker of the House of Representatives and former Governor of Katsina State, will receive an Honorary Doctor of Public Administration in recognition of his contributions to governance and his role in the establishment and development of Al-Qalam University.

Similarly, His Royal Highness Eze Abdul Fattah Chima Eze Emetu Maaditot, a traditional ruler from Imo State and former Grand Chief Imam of the Owerri Central Mosque, will be honoured with the degree of Doctor of Islamic Studies (Honoris Causa) for his leadership and contributions to Islamic propagation in Southeast Nigeria.

The Vice-Chancellor also announced that the University’s annual Qur’anic Recitation Competition will be held during the convocation week, with the grand finale scheduled for Tuesday morning at the Mohammed Sanusi II ICT Hall.

He noted that winners in both male and female categories are expected to receive ₦1 million each.

Professor Yauri reaffirmed the University’s resolve to continue holding convocation ceremonies annually, stressing that timely graduation and issuance of certificates remain a priority.
