The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has condoled the family of late leader of Pan-Yoruba sociopolitical organisation, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo.
LEADERSHIP reports that the former chieftain of the defunct National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) died peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2025 at the age of 96 in Lagos.
Oba Owoade, in a statement sighted by LEADERSHIP, and signed by his Chief of Staff, Rotimi Osuntola, descibed the late elder statesman as a politician, a Yoruba nationalist and a distinguished lawyer, who dedicated his life to fighting for equity, and justice.
He added, “Chief Adebanjo was a visionary leader and a foremost nationalist who made his mark in the annals of history in Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole.”
The monarch prayed for God to grant the soul of the late elder statesman eternal rest in peace, and prayed for strength for the family to cope during this time of mourning and beyond.
