Benue State commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Theresa Odachi Ikwue, has hailed Benue State governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for his dedication to improving the lives of women, children and vulnerable groups across the state.
The commissioner stated this when she joined children and caregivers at Mama Abayol Children’s Home to celebrate the 60th birthday of Governor Alia in Makurdi.
Ikwue noted that celebrating with the children at the orphanage demonstrated compassion and people centred style of leadership.
The statement issued by the information officer of the ministry, Joy Akoh, on Saturday, said the celebration featured the presentation of disposable sanitary pads to the girls from the office of the First Lady senator Oluremi Tinubu as part of activities to commemorate Governor Alia’s birthday.
Earlier, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Neegu expressed happiness at the children’s disposition and encouraged caregivers not to relent but keep doing the good works.
The director Child Development Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Janet Daagba, encouraged individuals and organisations to continue supporting orphanages and vulnerable children through acts of kindness and community service.
