Benue State governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has inspected equipment procured for installation at the state-owned rice mill located in Wadata, Makurdi Local Government Area.
The government said the mill built during the administration of former military administrator of Benue state Aminu Isa Kontagora, has been moribund and abandoned for years, suffering neglect by previous administrations.
Technical adviser to Governor Hyacinth Alia on media, publicity, and strategic communication, Chief Solomon Iorpev, in a statement said the revival of the mill marks a significant step towards revitalizing the state’s economy and reviving small-scale industries.
Iorpev stated that the revival of the State Rice Mill demonstrates Governor Alia’s commitment to bringing about a total turnaround in the economy of Benue State.
“This initiative is a deliberate effort to boost women’s participation in small-scale businesses, which are the bedrock of economies. By providing opportunities for women to thrive, Governor Alia is empowering them to contribute to the state’s economic growth and development,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the initiative will have a significant impact on the lives of women and the overall economy of the state.
