Benue State governor, Hyacinth Alia, has approved the suspension of three government officials recommended by the State House of Assembly.

On Wednesday, the chief press secretary, Tersoo Kula, issued a statement saying Alia attributed the suspension to his belief in the rule of law.

The suspended government officials are Grace Adagba, chairman of the State Universal Basic Education; Maxwell Ogiri, chairman of Otukpo local governmen area and Michael Uper, executive secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission.

According to him, the suspension is to last for one Month.

In line with the resolutions passed by the House, His Excellency has affirmed the suspension of the chairman of Otukpo council,  Maxwell Ogiri, for one month, effective today.

“The suspension of the Chairman of SUBEB, Grace Adagba, for one Month also takes effect today, and the suspension of the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Michael Uper, is also for one month, effective today.”

However, the governor reiterated his unwavering commitment to the rule of law, due process, and separation of powers.

He also commended the House of Assembly for exercising its constitutional responsibilities and assured that his administration remains dedicated to transparency, accountability, and good governance.

The governor urged all affected institutions to ensure seamless continuity of service delivery during this period, calling on the people of the State to continue to support the government’s efforts towards building a state that works for all.

It would be recalled that the Benue State House of Assembly had recommended, at different times, the suspension of the government officials for six months each.

Following the state governor’s non-approval of the recommendations, the House declared that it would no longer entertain correspondence from the executive branch. It declined to screen the commissioner nominees sent to the legislature by the executive branch.
