A chairmanship aspirant for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Ishaku Yamawo, has rejected result of the party’s recent primary election, describing the process as deeply flawed and undemocratic.

Addressing journalists yesterday in Abuja, Yamawo, a founding member of the APC in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), accused the party leadership of orchestrating a manipulated process that excluded credible contenders.

“The AMAC primaries were not just flawed; they betrayed the principles of justice, equity, and inclusion that the APC stands for,” he said.

Yamawo pointed to widespread irregularities during the delegate congress held on June 21 across AMAC’s twelve wards.

He alleged that officials from the APC national headquarters arrived with a clear bias towards a preferred candidate, effectively sidelining other aspirants.

He also claimed that the final primary election, held on June 25, was conducted in secrecy, with no official communication to several aspirants, including himself.

“It was a sham election. We were neither informed nor involved. The outcome was predetermined,” he said.

He further decried irregularities in the Councillorship primaries, particularly in Gwarimpa Ward, where he claimed a losing candidate was wrongly declared the winner and issued a certificate of return.

Yamawo has submitted a petition to the APC Delegate Congress Appeal Committee but says he has yet to receive a response.

He is now calling on the newly appointed APC national chairman, Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda, to take immediate action by: “Launching an independent investigation into the AMAC primaries, Cancelling the June 25 chairmanship primary and organizing a new, transparent election, Addressing the grievances of aggrieved aspirants.”

“This level of manipulation sets a dangerous precedent. If this is allowed to stand, it tells loyal members that integrity no longer matters,” he said.

Despite his criticisms, Yamawo reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

“My loyalty remains with the APC and President Tinubu’s vision. But staying silent in the face of injustice is not loyalty—it’s complicity,” he added.
