Ambassador-designate Reno Omokri has vowed to uncover the whereabouts of missing political commentator Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata, who was abducted from his home in Kaduna seven years ago.

Omokri made the pledge during a visit to Dadiyata’s wife, Khadija Hafsat Lame, at their family residence in Kaduna.

In the ensuing conversation, Khadija recounted the traumatic night her husband was taken. “He was just returning from work,” she said, showing Omokri the exact spot in front of their house where the incident occurred. “I watched them from the window as they took him away.”

When asked about recent claims by public figures, Omokri said, “Mallam Nasir El-Rufai was on TV recently and denied having anything to do with it. He blamed the former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and Mallam Ganduje has also denied it. What do you have to say about that?”

Khadija replied, “We pray that whoever is responsible for this be found out one day.”

She also revealed that though she did not have a phone at the time of her husband’s abduction, someone later showed her a tweet by Bashir El-Rufai, the former Kanduna governor’s son allegedly mocking Dadiyata’s disappearance. “I felt bad; I can’t even explain how I felt that day,” she said quietly.

Omokri, assuring Dadiyata’s wife, said, “I promise to personally pursue justice. I came all the way from California to Kaduna, and I am giving you my word of honour, if your husband is alive, I will find him and bring him out from wherever he is. But God forbid he is not alive, I will not rest until the people who have done this are brought to justice,” he vowed.

“It’s been seven years since Dadiyata was captured,” Omokri added. “He has not seen his children, and his wife has been left bereaved.”
