The 15th Emir of Kano has reiterated the cancellation of the traditional durbar ceremonies he initially planned.
The decision to cancel the annual durbar was made following recommendations from security operatives to ensure peace in the state.
“We have lifted all durbar activities following the recommendations of security operatives for peace to continue to reign,” the emir said.
Tension has been high in the state in the days leading to the Eid El Kabir festivities due to confusion on who of the two emirs is entitled to lead the annual durbar.
Both Sanusi II and Bayero have continued to hold courts and conduct ceremonial activities from their separate palaces in the state amid a legal tussle to outdo each other.
Police in Kano Thursday issued an order banning all Durbar activities throughout the state for the Eid-el-Kabir (Sallah) celebrations as part of security measures to ensure public safety and peace in the State during the festive period.
