The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has deployed 10,250 personnel to Anambra state ahead of the November 8 governorship election, with a strong warning to politicians and supporters against acts of violence.
Prof. Audi said the deployment, which includes tactical forces from the Corps’ National Headquarters and formations across the South East and South South zones, is part of a broader effort to ensure a peaceful, credible, and violence-free election.
The deployment was contained in a statement by the Corps national spokesperson, CSC Afolabi Babawale.
Addressing State Commandants and heads of Tactical Squads in Abuja, the Corps boss said the NSCDC’s operation would be conducted in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, which remains the lead agency in election security.
He emphasised that effective coordination, cooperation, and collaboration among security agencies would guarantee a smooth electoral process.
Audi warned politicians and their supporters to desist from making inciting statements or engaging in actions capable of triggering violence before, during, and after the poll.
“The Anambra election is slated for Saturday, November 8. All intelligence and undercover personnel are to proceed with immediate effect to man various identified flashpoints.
Tactical forces are to commence round-the-clock patrols, while operatives deployed to polling units and collation centers must adhere strictly to their posting orders,”he said.
Audi further noted that, in line with the resolution of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), the NSCDC, alongside other security agencies, will provide security for election materials, officials, and voters across the state.
“You are hereby directed to be professional and ensure respect for the fundamental human rights of citizens while carrying out your duties,” he added.
The NSCDC boss disclosed that the 10,250 operatives were drawn from the National Headquarters Tactical Squad, Zone 13 (Awka), and Commands in Anambra, Edo, Kogi, Imo, Abia, Delta, Rivers, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Bayelsa States. He assured residents of the Corps’ commitment to maintaining peace and order throughout the election period.
