Ajaokuta local government area of Kogi State has witnessed a notable political shift as members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), reinforcing the party’s grassroots presence.

The defectors were received by the senior special assistant on Security and Conflict Resolution to the Kogi State Governor, Hon. Muhammed Yusuf, who represented the APC leadership in Ajaokuta, alongside the lawmaker representing Ajaokuta federal constituency, Hon. Sanni Abdulraheem.

On behalf of the federal lawmaker, Yusuf commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his leadership, highlighting ongoing efforts to position the state as a model for human capital and infrastructural development.

He also praised Hon. Abdulraheem for his commitment to constituency growth.

Describing the defection as a “bold and progressive step,” Yusuf assured the new entrants of fairness, inclusivity and equal opportunities within the APC, stressing that both old and new members have a role to play in strengthening the party.

Also speaking, Hon. Ahmed Idris, a former councillor from Patesi/Abodu Ward, applauded the defectors’ decision, urging them to remain committed to the party’s ideals.

Yakubu Salami, who led another group from Badoko, welcomed the defectors into what he called a “vibrant and progressive political family,” assuring them of the party’s capacity to accommodate all members in its development agenda.
