‘APC Gov’ship Candidate Has No Plans To Scrap New Bauchi Emirates, Chiefdoms’

A former Bauchi State commissioner for Information, Hon. Umar Ibrahim Sade, has dismissed reports alleging that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Barr. Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar (SAN), intends to abolish the newly created emirates and chiefdoms in the state if elected governor in 2027.

Sade described the claims as baseless and politically motivated, saying they were designed to mislead the public and create unnecessary tension within the state’s traditional institution.

According to him, there is no official statement, campaign document, or policy proposal from Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar or the APC suggesting any intention to dismantle emirates, chiefdoms, districts, or remove traditional rulers.

Sade while speaking with journalists in Bauchi yesterday said, “M.A. Abubakar, SAN, understands constitutional governance and the legal framework that established the existing traditional institutions. Any suggestion that he plans to abolish them is entirely false and misleading,” Sade stated.

He stressed that traditional rulers play indispensable roles in promoting peace, resolving disputes, preserving cultural heritage, and providing community-based security intelligence.

“At a time when the country is grappling with insecurity, farmer-herder conflicts, and communal disputes, weakening traditional institutions would be counterproductive,” he added.

Sade further noted that throughout his years in public service, Abubakar has consistently demonstrated respect for due process, institutional independence, and inclusive governance.

“His leadership philosophy is centred on strengthening institutions rather than undermining them. Traditional rulers remain critical stakeholders in governance and development, and that position has not changed,” he said.

The former commissioner urged political actors and stakeholders to focus discussions ahead of the 2027 governorship election on policies, programmes, and development strategies rather than unverified allegations.

He reassured residents that Abubakar’s vision for Bauchi State includes strengthening the legal and administrative frameworks that support traditional institutions and enhance their contribution to peace, stability, and development.
